How to become tenant in Luxembourg?


To become a tenant in Luxembourg, even before the start of any administrative procedure, it is necessary to check whether certain conditions are fulfilled.

The following documents are required to draft a lease agreement:

  • proof of identity (passport or identity card);
  • proof of stable income, such as a long-term employment contract or pay stubs;
  • a deposit (a sum of money) equaling from 2 to maximum of 3 months of rent, including “charges”

You must provide all of these at the time of the lease signing.  Most landlords, however, prefer to review your application file even before they show you the apartment. 

Important to know: to be able to rent in Luxembourg, you will have to purchase a comprehensive household renter’s insurance. The insurance certificate, as well as the deposit, the first month of rent, and the agency fees must generally be paid no later than the day of closing (delivery of the keys).
